Letting those that follow the site know that I’ll be posting more often this year. I am finally feeling better after my transplant and look forward to increasing the content of this site. If you have any ideas for content, please send them my way.

President and Sister BlickenstaffNewly called Taiwan Taizhong Mission (台灣台中傳導部) president, Kurt Blickenstaff, recently arrived with his wife Catherine in country on the 29th of June. They were greeted by the missionaries there to welcome the new president. They will be presiding over the Taizhong mission for the next three years. They are originally from Camarillo, California. Their local paper, Camarillo Acorn, wrote a nice article about a week ago. It can be found here. President Blickenstaff served as a young missionary in the Taibei, Taiwan mission (台灣台北傳導部)from 1976 to 1978 under President Thomas Nielson (倪爾遜會長) and later Frederick Crook (郭志文會長).

The LDS Church News posted the following profile for the Blickenstaffs back in March of 2013.


Kurt Lee Blickenstaff, 55, and Catherine Yuan Ling Chao Blickenstaff, six children, Camarillo 6th Ward, Camarillo California Stake: Taiwan Taichung Mission. Brother Blickenstaff is a stake president and former counselor in a stake presidency, high councilor, stake executive secretary, bishop and missionary in the Taiwan Taipei Mission. Self-employed general surgeon and director of surgery, Ventura County Medical Center. Born in Monticello, Utah, to Eugene Ellwood and Francell Redd Blickenstaff.

Sister Blickenstaff serves as a stake seminary teacher and is a former ward Relief Society president and teacher, ward Young Women president, Relief Society emergency preparedness specialist and Primary pianist. Born in New York City, N.Y., and adopted during infancy by Huang and Madeline Korshiang Jin Chao.

Malan Jackson’s presentation at the David M. Kennedy Center at BYU in January of 2008. Malan Jackson’s work in Asia includes several years in Hong Kong in banking and business, managing two large businesses in China, organizing and managing many humanitarian projects in China and Mongolia, and he has served as honorary consul for Mongolia for several years. Jackson also served as the founding president of the Taiwan Mission (1971–74), having served a three-year mission as a young man in Hong Kong.

Ivan Hall that is mentioned near the beginning of the presentation has since died. You can read his obituary here.

The Church’s China website has now been released as of today.

“This website seeks to answer “Frequently Asked Questions” by PRC Church members outside China and by Church leaders who work around the world with those members. It gives needed basic information for PRC Chinese members returning to China, including whom to contact for information, attending Sunday Church meetings and encouragement to observe relevant Chinese laws. Also provided are links to online Church resources in simplified Chinese.”

Brigham Young University hosted the 23rd Annual Conference of the LDS International Society,”In the Public Eye: How the Church is Handling Increased Global Visibility,” back in April of this year at Brigham Young University. The keynote address was given by Elder Anthony D. Perkins, First Quorum of the Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints entitled, “Out of Obscurity: Perspectives from Asia.”
